I have tried both Marmite and Vegemite.
(But not the New Zealand version)

I like them both. They are very similar but not the same in taste or texture. I found that marmite is slightly sweeter and has a thinner texture than vegemite.

Warning! They taste nothing like a jam, jelly, or peanut butter. They are yeast extract and they are salty. Marmite has a somewhat ...[text shortened]... there. The majority of them are doing it totally wrong and are a waste of your time to even watch.
Our American friends could start with Marmite Crunchy Peanut Butter and gradually build up to proper Marmite.

I am curious now. What is your definition of "proper Marmite"?

The original English one.
I thought, maybe, after trying and liking the marmite flavoured peanut butter, the original Marmite - used as you described - would be more acceptable. The 'shock factor' would be missing.

OK, now I see. I thought maybe you meant there was a particular "proper" way of eating the original marmite. I know people use it on various sandwiches or in soup as well. I think it is perfect on buttered toast so will stay with that. 🙂

I don’t know if you were joking there ghost but all of that would work for me I would have strong Assam tea to soothe the throat after the ginger ale on a hot summer day.
The 'lashings of ginger beer' thing was really a tip of the hat to Enid Blyton and The Famous Five.

Good choice with the Assam tea.

If it's not your opinion why post it?
If they are found facts why not quote your source?

The fact is 5g of Marmite on toast is not going to help anyone lose weight.

It's not going to help you lose weight though is it?
Use it as an alternative to cheese spread ... OK.
But I could use pureed peas as an alternative spread.
Do peas help you lose weight?

How about a bag of air?

Peas are just as fattening as cheese, or toast for that matter.
Ways that vegemite can help with weight loss: lick it off a spoon (definitely an acquired taste but will kill your food cravings and give you enough salt for your whole day). Or stir it into a cup of boiling water. Tastes a bit like Bonox or Bovril.
Vegemite and cheese sandwich is my favourite but way too many calories.
