why do Canadians end sentences with 'eh'

Are you embarrassed about where you're from you don't fly a flag.

Eh is an expression that has been around longer than you or I lemon and I don't care how old you are!

Not all Canadians use it, you will see it more in some Provinces than others, for example I've never heard it in Newfoundland for example, but I am told some do use it.

I would guess it's all of them, or perhaps the most frequent ones. There may be old ones too which are seldom or never used but you will still find them in old literature or magazines.
