Originally posted by ExyYes but there should be some allowance for unforseeable emergencies.
The problem with that is that someone could put their vacation flag on and then leave the site and hold up countless games.
My method is better and puts the onus on people to be more responsible about their time management.
It would also be less work for Russ to implement.
Originally posted by ExyLook exy, I don't feel comfortable with auto timeouts. If you want tournament and clan league games to auto timeout I'm all for that. But the game that are'nt are between me and my opponent. It is up to the players to decide if a timeout is needed. Regular games and regular clan games do not need to auto timeout.
Why? It's only a game of chess? If you play 3 or 7 day time out with a 14 day time bank that should be plenty of time for holiday / emergencies etc. If you're worried about timing out don't play 1 day time out games, it's common sense.
We don't need anymore auto timeouts.
I have a game on my list that's had a skull for 3 weeks. I like my opponent, and I'm willing to wait on him. Noone else needs to have a say in whether that game times out or not.
Originally posted by NyxieI agree that should be an option too when you set up a non-league/clan game then - no time controls for this game and both players agree that.

However, for those games that do have time controls then I still think the best way to enforce them would be automatically it removes any guilt or argument.
Originally posted by ExyTo my knowledge tournament and clan league games already auto timeout. Problem solved.A regular clan game or a simple challenge game is'nt going to hold up the site, so no further action is needed.

Originally posted by ExyWell it just seems to add more to an unfortunate situation. You have a bad emergency, you come back here and all the games have timed out. Just seems like kicking someone when they're down.
Also, let's get this in perspective, do you think if someone truly has an emergency scenario that they're going to be bothered if a couple of chess games time out?! 😕
Now obviously we're not going to agree here.
Originally posted by ExyHow would you know it's not not legit? It's a fair guess to say that unforseen circumstances will arise in your life, and following, in the lives of others around you. I just don't see why it's that important that a game between two people that's not holding up the site auto timeout.
What makes it 'legit'? How do you know they're not just making an excuse?
Either you're pro auto-timeouts for all timed games or you're not. Sounds like you're not.
In conclusion : dagnabbit, I'm agin' it!
I'm for auto-timeouts and you're against them, that's fine.
The originator of the post seemed to be in favour of them but then said excuses are OK, well there would be no room for excuses in an automated system, so I guess he's not really for them either.
The way I see it is the time out and time bank features are there to be used, if people don't make the best use of them and try to play unrealisticaly fast games, then the only way they'll learn is by getting timed out.
