Would you recommend Betelgeuse as a holiday resort for Earthlings? I need to use up some vacation time.

Yes, but they only take clean money there, so remember to forget to check your pockets when you wash clothes for the trip.

Well, not Betelgeuse itself, but there's a nice little planet in the vicinity of it that I can recommend. It has lots of betelgeuseshine, clean money, towels and hoopy froods.

Nordlys, you seemed to be quite sympathetic to her in Mike's "Suicide Pill" thread this past weekend, expressing empathy toward her challenge.

27. To witness the cute cowardly segues on the the part of weakness... as well as the contrasting courageous and loyal steadfastness of integrity.

28. To try to figure why mature bulletin board posters feel the compelling need to attempt to hijack threads (and, yes, Russ has been advised).

I would recommend that you visit the planet Gliese 581c. It's about 20 million light years away and has a size, climate and temperature range just like Earth's. It might even have liquid water.
The star that it orbits is about 10 times at large as our own sun, so you can probably forget about total darkness, even on the dark side of the planet. Make sure you carry a lot of Barry White albums and booze to set the mood when your'e ready to get it on.
The only drawback is that you probably will not be able to enjoy it. Your future, future, future relatives will though, unless you know how to bend space.

Raven doesn't like "Star Trek." It is such a final frontier.

I didn't and still don't know if her posts were about her own experience (maybe you know more than me), I just agreed with her points. And I still don't think that starting a "feel good" thread is likely to cheer up a deeply depressed person (and if it were me, I'd probably dislike this kind of attention).

May I suggest that you take time out of your busy and productive day to avail yourself of her dark and rather arresting poems in the Culture

Forum. You are not the issue, nor your preferences. For you to attempt to debase it as a "feel good " thread tells us a great deal about you.

For you to take a person's private issues public in this manner says a great deal about you.

31. To learn to avoid attention-whorishness.

The person in question did not keep this private; it was entered in at least two forums and she was asking questions which those of us who are her friends were attempting to answer. Those who were not her friends were egging her on and making fun of her. Stop vilifying the wrong people!
