@ogb saidSome do become better people after serving their time, some don't change and their next prison term end up for being something worst than the first time. There is a Pedohphile who has been according to the system reabilitated twice now and has been charged a 3rd time just recently..... The sentences are too short and they are diagnosed cured too early just to get them out as the prisons are most likely at the point where they are over loaded. Personally I say Castratation is called for in those cases then they will not have the urge.
Please don't continue to bash prison inmates. OK so they made some bad choices. But potentially, they will become better people after serving their time. I've play chess with many prisoners through the mail, and never had a "bad" experience.

In Germany the aim of a Prison sentence is in fact the betterment of the Person, involving insight what they did wrong and an attempt to reverse their life's aims.
But we have of Course People playing the System and not be bettered at all.
