People will either love you or hate you here. However...
Real time chess is exciting and you can learn from your mistakes if you save all your games and go thru them using some kind of analysis program.
But, as I tell my students, playing 5 minute blitz chess is detrimental to their OTB play. Reasons?
1) Playing blitz chess conditions your brain to 'move quickly' and you can never grasp the entirety of the game, much less a given position, if you do that.
2) Players here will play 200 points ABOVE their OTB rating! Why? Because they are allowed to use databases, chess programs and books to determine what they should play in the openings.
I posted here that a certain person uses Fritz to play his games (Ok, I said XanthosNZ uses Fritz to play his games). I did not accuse XanthosNZ of violating the TOS laws here at RHP, which is that you can't use a chess program to suggest moves after the opening. I merely quoted what he said, which was that he uses Fritz... he uses it to determine his opening moves and that's legal.
But you know, when you say something in a text message many people will read their own thoughts into what they think you have said. My opponent took the statement as an accusation and now hates my guts. 😕
In retrospect, if you don't take advantage of the opportunities to use a chess database for the openings then you probably won't get much out of this site. Sooo, I strongly recommend that you do use some kind of database when making your opening moves. Once your database ends then you have to play your own game.
It's very important to analyze all the games you lose.
And just for the record, I never accused my friend XanthosNZ of cheating. I made a statement that he used Fritz, which he does - for the openings.

a. you don't have the aholes in real time chat like you do on yahoo (just on easily avoided message boards).
b. i can play at work
c. i won't ceaselessly play 2/0 blitz, thus destroying what puny remnants of actual chess ability i may possess.
d. i can play at work
e. rhp doesn't crash every 30 seconds
