I can't defend my dell yet. I've managed to hook the monitor, keyboard and mouse up. I've named it and set up three user accounts. I'm bored of that now. I still can't find any speakers and I need a ubs cable or something of the sort for the printer.
I Love my HP
😀
skeeter. PS you will need the USBx - USBx cable.

OK. On XP ( any edition) from control panel > system >general. will give you the basics : OS and version with the OEM rego: service packs : processor gen and speed along with installed RAM.
From system > hardware > device manager will give you all the installed devices. You can't cause any damage in these folders. Have a look around and compare. Anythi ...[text shortened]... what they're talking about with the exception of Bowmann. Avoid him like a plague.

So I got a new PC for xmas and either it's just me in my lack of sleep haze or there's serious pieces missing to this thing. Too scared to attempt any sort of digging through the mountain of stuff under the tree to see if mabye things got misplaced in the toss up. Everything was packed up tight so it must be here somewhere.
I'm feeling an odd sense of d ...[text shortened]... r up with.
P.S
So do I have to have my server come in again to hook this new PC up online?

Ummmm free????
How is free=screwed?
Now where are my speakers?
Against my will, the computer I am currently using is a Dell, I didn't buy it and don't own it, but when come home, I am forced to use it. At this point I think it may be the only Dell in the world which functions as it should and doesn't give its owner any crap.
Here is the secret of a well behaved Dell: Uninstall almost all the software that comes installed on it, just wipe the harddrive right away if you are comfortable with setting things up from there and installing a new OS.

Just to inject my two cents. I am a big supporter of tigerdirect.com and ibuypower.com
Both are rather exceptional companies whose products have shined for me. Both companies can custom build you a machine (and I highly recommend calling them as opposed to ordering online purely. They frequently cut you an even better deal). I currently run off of a built to order AMD from tiger direct and I couldn't be happier. Machine runs like a champ, top notch hardware, and low and behold I can oper her up and tinker about if I so please (gasp)! Further more, I got far more bang for my buck from these places than I would ever get with a mass manufactured system.
One of the 2 computers we have at home is a Dell and I use it for work it works just fine and was a lot less expensive than the "family" one but I guess it depends on what you're using it for. My kids have all the "best" video and sound cards in the family one (I'm a neophyte when it comes to computers not sure of the terminology) and they seem to have more problems with it than I ever have with mine.
Dell's are fine. I think some of those slagging it would say the same thing about certain car's.
However, you don't get a cable for your printer unless you order one.
They are build your own on the website so if the person ordering did not know what to do that may be the problem.
Not knowing what to order may also be the problem with those who are slagging them off!! 😉
I'm sitting in my front room running wirelessly from my dell laptop though my dell desktop and printing to my......OK HP printer. Never had a problem.
