Hey, ya'll still love Mr. Bobby Fisher, Fischer, Ficher, or whatever? Hours after 9/11 he says on Phillipine radio "This is great news! Time now to finish off the USA once and for all. I was so happy, I couldnt believe what was happening. I applaud all the terrorists who pulled this through."
Still love bobby fisher?
he didnt?

One can still admire his chess skills and amazing spatial ability without condoning his treasonous actions.
I love Michael jackson's 'Off the Wall' album but you don't see me cheering him on for inviting young boys to get drunk and sleep in his bed...
... or do you?
I must agree with Angie.
We used to read a book long way back in school called "The chess novella". It´s about a guy who walks into prison for X years and starts playing chess in his mind against himself. Comes out and wins and wins and wins tourney after tourney.
At the last game against a grandmaster he starts playing several games besides the real one in his mind and ends up mixing his moves up.
I think if history teaches us something than it is if one is really passionate for something he takes the risk of changing his personality.
You start as Bobby Fisher. Unknown. Get known. Get real known. Get worshipped. All you ever do (cause you love it and cause of expectations) is thinking about chess and preparing for the next matches. One could really loose his bound to reallity.
Many genius have lived questionable lives or did questionable things (Mozart used to f... around all the time, The ear slicing painter, Chopin cut his finger off etc.).
Indeed, there is a thin line between genius and insanity but where this line stops there is no beginning and no end.
