Was Hitler vegetarian?
In the Heretic's Feast, Colin Spencer gives credence to the myth that Adolf Hitler was a vegetarian. He makes reference to Hitler's supposed vegetarianism no fewer than four times, devoting a lengthy five-page section to it in chapter 12.

While it is true that Hitler's doctors put him on a vegetarian diet to cure him of flatulence and a chronic stomach disorder, his biographers such as Albert Speer, Robert Payne, John Toland, et al, have attested to his liking for ham sausages and other cured meats. Even Spencer says that Hitler was a vegetarian from only 1931 on: "It would be true to say that up to 1931, he preferred a vegetarian diet, but on some occasions would deviate from it." He committed suicide in the bunker when he was 56 in 1945; that would have given him 14 years as a vegetarian, but we have the testimony to the contrary of the woman chef who was his personal cook in Hamburg during the late 1930s - Dione Lucas. In her "Gourmet Cooking School Cookbook," she records that his favorite dish - the one that he customarily requested - was stuffed squab (pigeon). "I do not mean to spoil your appetite for stuffed squab, but you might be interested to know that it was a great favorite with Mr. Hitler, who dined in the hotel often."

He ate pigeons .... how symbolical ! 😕

ps i see you have already found one reference - there are many more of course - even those who argue that he was vegetarian become enmeshed in self-contradiction. now off to eat!

If I would have been his doctor I would have advised him to eat lots of chili and lots and lots of hard-boiled eggs ...... 😛

Even if you can prove it.It is of no concern. The life styles of those who don't eat meat should not be brought into disrepute because of an evil person who did not eat meat, even though he did.It is beyond me how my not wanting to eat meat is like Hitler.

Now I can understand why they all shouted "Heil Hitler" in Germany when he was in power. The German word "Heil" means "Hail", but the German verb "heilen" means "to cure". So "Heil Hitler" also meant "Cure Hitler" ......
There sure was something rotten in the state of Germany and they all knew who that was ..... 🙄

this post was not put in as a anti vegetarian verses meat eaters post , nor was it for people to hijack and debate whether hitler was or was not a vegetarian .
It was mainly to inform those who eat these products as to how they are made. in truth it was to do with more about how we eat and what we eat .
in this book i am reading it talks about all the all the food that we eat today and the chemicals contained within , like the soy sausages , white flour and the chemicals that go into bleaching it , growth hormones etc , etc .
processed foods are a large part of our society of which we are consuming vast qtys and these foods are a poor substitute for whole un processed foods , the book makes links between what we eat and a means of increasing longgevity and helping to prevent diseases like alzheimers.
So it dosnt matter what you are vegi head , meat eater, veagan or what ever it just encourages you to put less crap into our bodies and give us a extended golden years so mabye we can play some more RHP .
😀 so endth my longest repl ever 😉

agreed - however, perhaps the thread title should have been something like 'what's in there anyway?' or 'do you know what you ate today?'

'vegi head', i'm sure wasn't intended to carry the same connotation as meathead 😀

no one needs to use 'meat substitutes', but some people who are making the transition to vegetarianism sometimes find it easier to go with something familiar.

it is a very good idea to look at what goes in, because it can determine what we come out as.

i hope you continue posting from your readings - much of this is important info for anyone who eats to be aware of 🙂
