Dr.Brain will very shortly be pestering all RHP members from home as well as from the office as I have purchased a PC.The internet connection might take anything from 6-8 weeks to get up and running as I live in South Africa.Land of milk, honey, crime and zero productivity.
The fact that I will now have a PC at home has opened a new world to me.I am planning on utilising this magnificent piece of equipment to it's fullest.
I will broaden my general knowledge
I will exercise my mind
I will attempt daunting new ventures
I will travel through history
You guessed it,I am going to play games on it.MUHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!!(and visit RHP offcourse)
But now dear friends, which games to purchase?I have a PS2 so all the good fast action and sports games are taken care of.I am interested in some good strategy games.Any suggestions will be welcome as I am but a babe in arms when it comes to PC games.

*cracks knuckles* Ok, lets get started.
If you like slow strategic type games (which i presume is the case), try civilization 3. It's a turned based world conquest type thing, and i've wasted plenty of hours on it. Kind of like chess but on a world scale (and a great place to thrash out all those anti-american feelings you didn't know you had until bush came along).
If you want something with a little more pace, and if you want to play other people, there are plenty of real time strategy games out there. Have a look at Age of Mythology (supposed to be pretty good), Warcraft 3 (a little faster and arcadey, but more quick fun) or Empire Earth (this takes some time to get the hang of, but i've been told it's worth it). Personally i'm waiting for Rise of Nations, but i'm not sure when it's being released.
Originally posted by Dr. BrainThese days, the only strategy game I'm playing is Command & conquer: generals. If you don't already know the command & conquer's serie, it's a real time strategy game that set the player in a modern warfare context. You have 3 factions USA, China and of course... the bad terrorists!

After a stressing day, it's always relaxing to throw some mass destruction weapons on your enemies' military base! π
bye the way, what's the spec of your new baby? I hope that's not a Mac computer! (sorry rwingett...) π

"Emperor" is a good game. It is like simcity Chinese. ππ you build a city and have to take care of finances and stuff. You can also take over other cities and seal there stuff. It is a really fun game.
I like the game Myst III: Exile very much, it's a great game that's al about solving puzzle's with beautiful environments, you can see arround yourself in a angel of 360 degrees! It is based on 'worlds' these worlds a written by someone and were brought to life by him as well....as one of his worlds is destroyed he decides to write another one...but at the moment the game begins (Tomahna is the house of the writer, that's were you begin) you see the bad (Saavedro, played by Academy Award nominee Brad Dourif (Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) guy steel the new book and your journey begins to find the book, in the game you travel trough 6 beautiful surrealistic worlds (Tomahna, J'nanin, Voltaic, Amateria, Edanna and Narayan) with puzzles that take you houres to fix...I could only play it out with a strategy guide and still I had a lot of trouble with the game...the music of this game composed by Jack Wall (New-Age) is really more than beautiful, you can forget the real world and play for houres while thinking you've played for 5 minutes! By the special edition of the game you get also the book of the new world (Releeshan) the Soundtrack and the making of CD. I'm almost even addicted to this game as to chess!
Visit www.myst3.com! You should find more information about the game there!

I have AOE 2, it's a very nice game with nice graphics and missions....you can play for houres and you will never play it out beacause there are random map's and stuff....and it's one of the very few games that work very well on the MSN Gaming Zone (Well, on my computerπ)
What about Age of Empire's la test edition

You're biggest decision in the strategy game world is to decide whether you like real time or turn based. Its not often that a player will like both.Generally speaking,I would say chess players would prefer turn based where strategy is your only weapon. Many real time games come down to keyboard dexterity and internet connection speeds for multiplay.
Pretty much anything with Civilization in it is would worth trying.SMAC is good also but one must walk before they run π
STAY AWAY FROM ANYTHING CALLED "Call to Power"
Originally posted by Dr. BrainIn terms of strategy, an oldie but a goody is Lords of the Realm 2. It's not that challenging but for relaxation and escape it's great and I really enjoy the sinister insults that the computer players (or real players if you play online) throw at you. Unfortunately I think I wore out the CD. It is kaput. Another good no-brainer is Hogs of War, a spoof on a World War II shoot-em-up game. If you like Rick Mayall you'll get some enjoyment out of this. I played Shogun a fair bit but I didn't find it that much fun. It didn't have the character of the other two games.
