Rich,

I think another way of putting it would be...

Do we prefer just to play chess, thus it does not matter who you play since the oppenent is just part of the game, or is who we play more important than the game itself. If it was just about the chess I would probably not still be here. I am not that good to be honest and the only thing that has ...[text shortened]... no means exclusive in this. Variety is the spice of life, but we all like old friends.

Thank you Andrew I could not have said it better myself.I started this thread after seeing an open invite stating challenges by 1500 plus players only will be accepted. This got me thinking. This person is obviously out to get a good game of chess going. He is not discriminating, only demanding what he paid for.It is his right to do so.When I issue an open invite I expect to meet someone and have a game of chess.I dont expect the other person to be a chatterbox.i keep quiet if they dont want to chat.I do however expect common courtesy.I have not paid good money to suffer any of the abuse listed below.

I have played many nice people on this site and a few annoying persons. All of the annoying persons were non-pawnstars.I am not saying all non-pawnstars are bad.I myself was a non-pawnstar for sometime. While I was a non-pawnstar I did however not pollute this site by doing the following:

1.Starting a game. Then demanding fast moves using foul language.
2.Get myself into a situation where all is lost and then annoyed my opponent by moving every 3,7 or whatever days.
3.Lost a lot of games on purpose, dropped my rating to 1100 and then challenged some unexpecting sob using my new program.
4.Insulted people in the forums using foul language, got banned, changed my name, got banned, changed my name, got banned....
5.Forced members of this site to leave by pestering them to no end.
6.Start a game saying:"I am going to whip your ..se you son of a b....
7.Insulted opponents because I am losing/winning.
8.Spammed the forums to a virtual standstill.

Should this site become a pay site,I shall not cry a river, instead I shall pay my money with a smile.

I feel sorry for those non-pawnstars (and there are many) who contribute to making this a fantastic site. They only have six games to play and that is not much, but it might be for the better.......

How many pawn stars are there now? There used to only be about 250 of us but now there seems to be lots more.

Not meaning to slam you, but in my opinion this would be as bad as only playing stars. Playing newbi's is a risk, and I too always have the fear that the game will stagnate, get rude, or just be unenjoyable. But not playing someone new is giving a pretty cold front and not encoraging them into the community.

One idea that has crossed my mind is to use Quick (for those of you who don't know, Quick is my 2nd name here, who was created so I could try my hand at playing blitz). If a newbi wants to play, or maybe anyone I don't know or hasn't got a track record, I play the as quick forst. They get as good a game as I normally play, but I have nothing to lose if they start to mess me about.

(nb. C&R, others have now copied me in having anm alter ego. Tell me if this is a practice you want to discourage)

Non-PS's are more likely to give a bad game, or be annoying. But then again black men are more likely to be drug dealers than white (in the UK). An extreme example I know, but just trying to show that I don't think we should shun part of the comunity because they are more likely to be a problem.
