I would be interested to know if the general concensus would support the creation of a new 'political debates' forum as such discussions have become increasingly popular lately.
There was a time when the general forum became dominated by puzzles so we created a new 'posers and puzzles' forum which was very succesful in giving people somewhere to confuse each other.

I say yes...and disallow moderators from editing posts as these debates get heated and ugly words start getting tossed about, but that's what makes it interesting and lively(look how the Korean Congress debates...looks like a WWF slugfest)...if people get offended by heated dialogue, let them go visit the Mother Goose forums...😵

Originally posted by chancremechanicWe wouldn't allow a forum to go unmoderated, but we would take the view that we would expect more heated discussions and would moderate accordingly.

We would not want posters to be alienated from the forum because they felt intimidated, otherwise it would just become dominated by those with the thickest skins, but I feel sure that that people would understand that the nature of the forum would suggest a little more confrontation than usual.

Originally posted by Chrismoi'm fine with whatever you and russ figure out. what is important is as far as the 'more heated discussions' are concerned is that the ground rules are clear, consistent with the TOS (unless otherwise decided), and applied uniformly.

i do think the separate forum is a good idea based on the rationale that crowley put forth
"There are just too many people actively participating in the general forum, meaning that 2 days later when I log in again, the threads that I had the 'thread' of and was participating in are either off the 1st page or has changed direction so much that I don't feel any need to participate in them any more."
in friendship,
prad
edit: if i have any concerns, it would be that threads can get incoherent, if they are punctuated with spam, vendettas, etc. Were that to happen, it may discourage posters who prefer substance. However, this, of course, may not happen at all.
i am for total fluency - what is dead goes to the grave and leaves room for the live and flourishing.
"rhp live" forum is dead,
"developers" forum is also dead
"announcements" forum is small but perhaps necessary? - although the "recommended" feature seems to bring russ and chrismo's announcements out loud and clear.
i see an important question: what happens to all the dead forums? - it is not right to just delete them; their threads need to be merged into other forums - maybe the general forum.
