When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.
When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.
When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.
When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I wasn't a Jew.
When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

Matt.7. [1] Judge not, that ye be not judged. [2] For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. [3] And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

@Very-Rusty -- re: the Hugo quote, I like the English translation that goes "a few flowers and all the stars in the sky" -- just that little difference in cadence, diction, and vowel sounds makes a difference to me.
TBH, I have never read past that section yet -- still sitting with Monseigneur Bienvenu in his little garden.

There are many biblical quotes I like even though I am not quite Christian or Jewish, but maybe those should be mentioned in the Spirituality forum instead.
This one is apocryphal or at least non-canonical:
Then He spake unto them, saying: "Now get back out there and give each other hell!"
