I will have to say that in the last two months I have had posts removed, edited, or whole threads deleted at other sites. I was even banned from a Linux site because I did not ask a question correctly (no warning....BAM!). This site is pretty free in my experience as to what you can post...not perfect mind you, but is pretty dang liberal.

I agree with you completely David, this has been brought up more than once over the past few years. When too many members think that they are at liberty to spew just about anything they want to in the Forums, its good to have a reality check and have them shut down.

Not to mention the highlight of 2004. You being banned from your own site. Now, that's tight moderation.

Speaking of which , how do you know when you've been banned ? Do you get a PM ? Are there warnings ? Is there a set proceedure ? Can you be banned on some forums and not others ?

Oh ya, I tend to forget about 'that' in normal conversation...😛 Thanks for bringing it up.

That Linux site I was afraid to even post, I guess I was right to be so.

This is the only site that I have found that has a decent variety of items on the menu to read and respond to. Of course the debates on all forums look almost exactly the same. Heck, now that I have been around here for about 3 years...give or take; I have noticed that the topics look almost the same as then. I am glad that new people are now coming into the forums here...we have lost so much in the past and I look forward to meeting new people and have fun like I used to. I have missed these forums, despite the minor flaws it may have.

It's probably just me, but I always have a problem with the automatic censoring of "profanity". And especially where the offending words have been disguised with asterisks, or something like that. In context, curse words are a legitimate part of the language. I agree that they should trigger a look by a moderator, but such a post shouldn't be dogmatically nuked.

I don't buy the argument that it's to protect "the kids" either, because I've heard the language "the kids" use. In fact, they offer a useful education in profanity. But I digress.

I once tried to post a quote from Peter Cook in the forums, that seemed to me to have a pointed relevance to a comment made in a thread. Unfortunately because the guy used a "bad" word, I couldn't, even in disguised form. I was loath to edit the great man's words, so I left it. I did feel disappointed though, because I felt that in context you'd have had to have been pretty churlish to find the quote offensive.

Ahhh, maybe it's just me. Maybe Peter Cook IS offensive. Maybe bad words are too. But like art, I reckon I know offensive when I see it. I'd like to see a board moderated by guys who have "triggers" which make them examine posts. But then they apply a liberal human touch, and only nuke posts that really ARE offensive, or slanderously illegal. And when it comes to passing judgement on what is or isn't offensive, the key word is LIBERAL.

I mean, how sensitive should we be to people who are easily offended. The world belongs to everyone, not just the uptight few. Personally, I'd be pretty shocked if anyone could offend me with a few swear words. You guys all need to be like me. The downside may be a free for all forum. The upside is that you'd all be Fully Wicked Gnarly Dudes.

Hey, how did you that ??

I swear my post was a lot milder than your one. Well, I WOULD swear it, but I'm afraid to. And you can't fool me that you're a woman, because girls don't swear. And don't be calling me sexist either. I'm pretty highly strung, and might feel the need to report you.

I never swear. Cussing works fine for me though.

Yeah, I can relate. Brothers, sisters, and even cussins too. They're all at it. My grandmother was the worst. She was forever swearing on a bible. Usually the organist would drown her out, cranking into the next hymn.
