The photographer has informed me that there was no editing involved, but it is a picture of a painting.

In my opinion it's more a reproduction than a photograph. It would be different if the photographer had added xyr own point of view by showing the painting in its environment or from an unusual perspective.

Originally posted by NordlysIt's fair to do as it doesn't state in the rules that you can't do it.

I've seen the "It's other people's art" discussion a few times, when people submit shots of art installations or sculpture or architecture. My general feeling is that you can still take a good shot or a bad shot of other people's art.
I've never seen the discussion about a photograph of a painting though.

Should I have gotten something else? I just got it this afternoon after having a lot of difficulty with the sizing thing with other progams. I can still take it back, haven't installed it yet. The sales clerk swears by it, says he has the full blown photoshop which costs about 700 bucks but he says most of what is in the full version is in elements 5.0. What do you think?
Great to see so many votes, but don't forget to comment!
Also, in order to try to understand this resolution thing. What is the resolution of the square frame you have as the standard? I recorded all the full scale resolutions of all the images just to see if I could see some pattern going on here and I did see the first # as being horizontal and the second # as vertical but it sort of seems as if your background frame was 800X800. That doesnt make sense though, don't know of a format like that. I also saw some with res of over 1000 horiz but it was narrower than your proported 800 size. Color me confused. Like I said, I am a newbie at this but I learn fast. Thanks.

Sizing is dead easy, just click on Image, Scale Image, and put in the size you want it at.

Originally posted by RagnorakOne thing confusing me, the thumbnail sized images say they are 150X150 pixels which implies a square. But only a couple of the images are actual squares, most with horizontal gaps, vertical gaps or like my Berries picture, a small rectangle in the bigger frame. 150 times 150 is 22500 pixels total I would think in a square pattern.

I can see where the actual file size would vary a lot between even thumbnails because it takes less bits to make a black scene or dark areas than a lot of colored spaces but still don't see why its called 150X150. Why wouldn't it be, like in my berries picture, say 110X120 or so?
