Thar she bellows: big problems require big solutions
While soaking in his hot tub in the Hollywood Hills, Justin Vorfun had an idea that may transform the skyline of downtown Los Angeles. Vorfun, the ceo of the engineering firm Megatech, was gazing at the brown firmament when he thought of a way to clean up the city's famously bad air. "I ran the idea past my top people, half expecting them to laugh," says Vorfun. "But they took me seriously." Now, several years and several million dollars later, Vorfun's vision has taken shape in the form of a multiton, building-size bellows designed to transform Los Angeles's skies.
The bellows will not directly blast the smog away from the city, says Vorfun. "That would be a patently ridiculous idea," he says. "There's no way you could build a bellows big enough to do that." Instead, Vorfun's scheme takes advantage of chaos theory, a branch of mathematics that describes complex systems.
Over the past decade mathematicians have realized that the weather, the stock market, Ted Koppel's hair, and other complicated phenomena are exquisitely sensitive to seemingly innocuous events. The collapse of sea monkey fisheries off the coast of Brunei, for example, can have repercussions on Wall Street. Similarly, the weather in Los Angeles can be affected by a thunderstorm in Azerbaijan. Or by the carefully timed blasts of an enormous bellows.
"Our calculations show that on certain days, given the right wind speed, temperature, et cetera, the bellows can set in motion air currents that will sweep smog out to sea," says Vorfun. Tests with one bellows created a bubble of fresh air over ten blocks. And although that bubble was quickly inhaled, Vorfun estimates that 300 bellows placed around the city could thoroughly clean the air. He has received a grant from the American Petroleum Institute to develop the idea.
The bellows are environmentally friendly--they are opened and closed by a ten-person team hauling on huge chains connected to an assortment of gears and pulleys. The one drawback: 50- mile-per-hour winds generated for 20 minutes or so at street level, as seen in the photo at near left. A poll found that more than 90 percent of Angelenos would be willing to put up with occasional gusts. "Los Angeles," says Vorfun, "doesn't have many pedestrians anyway. And they rarely wear hats."

this is realy confuseing,
how did you think of all stuff to say back and forth with your self,
as in Vaknso/you would argue with you/Rhymester,
and recruit MAP Kights and MAP Kight Recruiters(me).

Well, quite frankly, I find the whole thing to be quite unethical for one reason: your alter egos have played games against each other. In your last 9 games with "Vaknso", you have drawn two, and won 5, with two still in progress. Also, you have played at least two tournament games with Vaknso recently which smacks of rigging, even though you didn't win. If you had just kept up the MAP war and not played yourself, that is one thing. I think that in the best interest of this site, you should have just quietly let this whole thing go away. Instead, I believe that you have started something that could snowball out of control.
Just for curiosity sake, is this what Miss Take was being so cryptic about a few weeks ago? It that is the case, Miss Take, I am sorry for talking out of turn. But, you must really say what you mean and not make everyone breakout their decoder ring.
