Again, another innovation in touch screen technology from Apple but if you bought one what exactly would you use it for?

You can't use it as a portable workstation (like other touch screen enable laptops), you can't effectively type a document on it, you can't play games on it, you can't print from it. In essence it's just an overly expensive medium for viewing the web. Another style over substance product marketed by Apple.

Hopefully it will turn out to be a stepping stone for some greater innovation in portable technology but for now it's just yet another status symbol for the techno-geek wannabes - "Ooooh! Look at me, I've paid over the odds for a piece of equipment that makes my e-penis look bigger!"

Ugh, don't get me started on this. My Storm struggles just as much with signal where most other phones have almost full signal on the same network.

It's funny how techies can rarely understand what appeals to other people.

Most people don't need more than what the iPhone or the iPad provides. It was the same with the iPod, there were better (specs-wise) and cheaper alternatives but the iPod made MP3 players accessible and intuitive from the first touch. And specs-wise was already more than enough for the average music listener.

It's not just marketing, it's also providing what most people want: intuitive interface. But since it doesn't come on a specs-list then it seems it doesn't matter for some.

Translation: People will shell out tons of cash for a mediocre device if it's easy to use and shiny

A prime example. The easy-to-use feature is part of the quality of the device but since it doesn't come on a specs list then uzless doesn't consider it.

I bet you're a "command line" type of guy.

I don't know as I haven't tried it, but I imagine many people are willing to pay for a tablet with a very intuitive touch-based interface. Why is it not legitimate to want that?

How do you even decide if someone is being ripped off? It's not like there's a tablet out there with a similar interface to compare with.
