years ago, i used to hang out with a group that did something like that - the idea was that it was cheaper to get loaded before going out, rather than paying the inflated prices in bars, clubs etc. that way, all you had to do in those places was drink enough to maintain your chosen level of inebriation. usually the pre-going out stage involved vodka or tequila shots.

Yeah I get the strategy but keeping up was a mission! I was pissed by the time we got in the taxis!
