Isle of Man banknotes alos cause confusion. I had a hard time trying to change them in a bank in London

Yes you are right (linked to GBP only) but the cashiers don't know whether they should treat them as sterling or a foreign currency. In the end they treat them as sterling.

I once had to change a lady's £20 note in Asda they would not accept it and she didn't have an alternative, shame on you Asda for embarressing her and making us all wait longer
