Is it kid friendly?
It's not as kid friendly as a huge bag of Doritos but it's tasty!

A Risotto is a rice dish which is cooked using a very starchy rice (araborio - sp?) that is able to soak up several different infused flavours and, when finished, is very sticky and shiny and yummy. It doesn't even really look like rice when it's finished (and prepared properly).

Prob is a disipline prob. but can't stand watching kids dry heave at the table. I won't be forced to eat something I don't like....so I give the same consideration. When I was a kid I wouldn't eat half of the stuff I love today. Figure I'll just wait it ...[text shortened]... books make my head spin.
Sounds like some good ideas but need more details.....Keep em coming.
yeah, easy is the important word πŸ˜‰
I'm 16 and since my parents both work, I usually have to cook for my little sister and me during the week. Obviously, most of the time it's the stuff like deep-frozen pizza (Even I can turn on an oven) and dishes where you only have to add water and heat them. But I'm actually quite good at cooking noodles with special sauces... my secret: put in anything you can find in the fridge as long as it kinda matches up πŸ˜‰
As to creative suggestions what kids like to eat....
-fish fingers are always good. Except if your kids don't eat fish out of conviction. But otherwise... I hate fish, but I kinda like those πŸ˜€
-Pasta usually works no matter what you put into it... except maybe sea food. And it's pretty hard to mess those up.
-Chili con Carne. Unless you make it too spicy, kids will usually eat it.
-Pizza. Can even be healthy if you make it yourself (I don't).
-Personally, I really like salad. But only if I don't have to make it myself....

might post more later.

What? No good?
I sometimes wrap bacon around a nice rump roast and cook in a splash of red wine. Makes good gravy but takes all day. I slow cook for optimum tenderness. I sometimes get fancy but for the most part try to cop out of the whole cooking thing.
Wish I could afford take out every night. Wasn't like this till baby was born. She is a real demanding little sprout! Takes up all my time. Has to have my constant attention and seeing as this could be my last I gladly give her my all. So spending lots of time on meals is out for now.

Hey doritos for supper! there's an idea I can live with! with a couple of chocolate bars on the side, can you actually do that? I wonder.....

Will try and look for this araborio rice. Never heard of it. Just use Uncle Bens instant rice. Do you cook the rice then add in meat and veggies or how do you go about it? Does prepared properly mean it's difficult?I have been known to mess up instant rice!

For 2 cups of rice, you need one onion a few tablespoons of butter and oil, half a cup of dry white wine, about 4 or 5 cups of stock and whatever toppings you choose. You can look online for many great recipes that range from very simple (butter and parmesan, peas and corn, artichoke, etc.) to very fancy (beef and blue cheese, duck and blood oranges, etc.).

You first fry the onions in the oil over medium until they are soft (about 4 minutes), then add the rice stirring until the rice becomes well coated and translucent with a small white dot in the centre (about 3 minutes), then add the wine to deglaze the pan until it is all absorbed, then add the stock a ladelful at a time, at first enough to cover the rice. Once the stock in the pan has been absorbed, stir the rice then add another ladelful leaving about half a ladelful reserved at the end.

Once the rice is tender (you want it a tad firm) add any meat ingredients (pre-grilled, roasted, whatever) and heat through the rice (about one minute) then remove from heat. Add butter, reserved stock and your done!

Voila!

Ya I buy yhe easy cheats when I can. I find those quick frozen snacks are fairly pricey so I try to avoid them unless on sale. I know I use frozen perogies alot boiled then fried in butter. Good filler. With a little cottage cheese (kids actually like!)xand tamato slices or something. We really like fish but I refuse to buy in a store when I can just go to the lake! Can't believe what they charge for fresh fish in the stores. I'd prefer catching it myself.

Got another question....What's the best way to prepare ribs? W/O a bbq.

Sound good, will have to try sometime this week and let u know how it turns out. Easy too, really like that part. For stock do you mean broth? like chicken or beef broth?

Whats a dry white wine #?
I'm a red wine fanatic myself, would red work or is white better?

This is a real easy one : Take a chicken , either whole or cut up , toss it in a roasting pan . Take a bottle of spicey vinegar/oil salad dressing and pour it over the chicken . You'll probably only need about 8-12 oz of the dressing . Bake at 350 for 1.25 - 1.5 hours .

A time saver tip for grilling - Grill three time more than what you'll need , refridgerate the rest . The next two nights just microwave the leftover dogs , brats , burgers . They taste pretty much the same as when they were grilled the first time and it eliminates the grill set up .

forbidden by law to use grill, this limits options (fire hazard, don't wanna talk about it😞)

chicken sounds good though πŸ™‚
