And, you want your connectors to be as pure and untarnished as possible. Hence, gold. Tiny amounts of gold, true, but still, gold.

OKay

Go argue your point with all of the companies that use silver for contacts. Silver is used in electrical contacts, end of.

That may be.

Connectors from CPUs to the rest of the computer are usually made of gold, whether you like it or not. Ender of.

It doesn't detract away from my initial point that silver is used more so in industry and will therefore have more of a demand thus forcing up the price. More enderer oferer.

It is, however, almost completely irrelevant to the question of whether the silicon used in our computers will run out, for the simple reason that gold will run out before either silicon or even silver, at least as far as computers are concerned. Silver may be used to a great extend in industry in general; it isn't as important to the computer industry.

My initial comment wasn't anything to do with what you said about silicon. It was a reference to Woodgie's comment about the price of gold going through the roof. Look back, I didn't quote you and to be honest I do try to avoid doing so as I find you very anal, opinionated and lacklustre.
For some reason you seem to need to have the last word on everything and have an opinion about everything. Bit of a mini GB.

I love it when my crap threads create such an uproar.

I doubt the gold or silver will run out before the food does, but by then computers won't need us anyway.

You are both wrong anyway, graphene will soon replace both or its application won't require them.

Dude, you must be so yesterday if you haven't heard about graphene, all the cool kids are using it.

Its a super tough, super conductive material that is quite literally going to do to electronics like the DVD did to the video cassette or the CD did to vinyl or broadband did to youtube (keep adding miraculous things here).

Of course, those folks that have sunk millions into making resistors and bog standard transistors will claim it is a load of rubbish.

(I attached my spock ears on to write this)

Aye, I'm just readin about it on Wiki now. Most interesting. Not got to the bit about its applications yet, just about its discovery and physical/chemical makeup.
