Anyhoo.....

Trying to get back on track, "affect' vs. "effect" used to bother me so I researched it and determined that they're interchangeable. Unlike their, they're, there. And also its, it's and that great non-word its'. Also the other fan favorite "irregardless".

"affect" and "effect" are NOT interchangeable, regardless of what you determine.

Technically true, but as verbs they are extremely close in meaning -

Think of the word sting. Sting can be both caused and sensed. If I sting another, the action of the sting is called 'affect.' If the other feels the sting, that is the 'effect.'
