Originally posted by adramforallThis is good advice. I am ashamed to say that despite knowing about this, I never shop with a list, and end up spending way more than I plan to. Once, I had to buy some salt, nothing more. I went to the store, looked in the directory to see where the salt was, and the directory said: "Front". Great, so I walked up and down the front of the store through various aisles, and I ended up buying $40 worth of groceries I didn't need, and the worst part was that I forgot the salt. So, I had to make a second trip to the store to buy salt, I remembered what the directory said, so once again, I was walking up and down the front of the aisles looking more carefully this time, and there was no salt to be seen in the front. I finally asked someone who worked at the store, and she told me where the salt was. It was in the back of the store (nice). How much did I end up spending on my second trip? Another $30. By the way, I have not learned my lesson, but I have not repeated this mistake on this magnitude since, either.
If you go in with a specific shopping list and ignore everthing else then you will only buy what you want. Stores hate shoppers like that who are inevitably men who do not buy on a whim. 😉
