We like you Brits as much as you like us, at least I hope so. We need each other like never before... especially when Hilary becomes president...you think Maggie had balls?....LOL

1. You don't see us building a tunnel to France
2. British entertainers don't really make it big until they're popular in the U.S.
3. How many men have you landed on the moon? or even put into space at all? The U.S. has been the world leader in computer and high-technology generally. We don't dwell on past, faded glory; we keep looking ahead
4 ...[text shortened]... hose panicky vote-of-confidence recalls of Parliament. Exactly what does the House of Lords do?
2. You have a near monopoly so what did you expect.
3. There would be little point for the UK to persue space exploration for the moment, the USA only did it to get at russia in the cold war.
The USA is very fortunate to be a world leader but Japan is pulling ahead in high-tech stuff. And the last point: what are you getting at? The english don't dwell on the past as much you think, but we respect and remember anniverseries of events like WWII so we can remember to prevent them in the future; and we are looking ahead - take global warming for example, Britain and the rest of europe are taking preventitive measures to lower CO2 emissions yet the USA and its administration are refusing to acknowledge the problem that they are causing.
4. Don't disrespect the welfare state - it takes care of the poor and the elderly who need help. In the USA the poorer people lose out as the taxes dispropotionatly tax people's earnings, so the rich people stay super rich but the poor have to spend that money on medical care if they need it, often if they can't afford it they will receive the care they need. The UK has struck a balance that take cares of the needy but still encourage good economic growth.
5. What are you on about? We don't do any vote-of-confidence recalls of parliament. We hold regularly local and general elections to decide who (which party) has seats in the house of commons. I would also like to congratulate the UK on having a multi party system that includes New Labour, Conservatives and the Liberal democrats and other minor parties like UKIP that represent the views of the people better than the two party system that the USA has.
Finally the house of Lords oversee the Laws made and make votes on whether or not they should passed, the law propsoals coming from the house of commons.

These levees should have been updated 40 years ago when the destruction in Holland caused by a vicious North Sea took 6,000 lives in a similar fashion. Our gov't has a bad habit of post-acting, or post-planning, i.e., not acting until disaster strikes. 9-11 is a good example because the WTC was attacked back in 1993 but nothiong was done to make sure it didn't happen again. Our borders with Mexico have allowed 15,000,000 illegals, including people from the middle east, to enter the U.S. This is a disaster in the making, yet our Congress and other officials have their heads in the sand, or up their collective asses, as I prefer to see it. The Mayor of New Orleans was clearly NOT a leader, as a leader would have not waited for the federal government to tell him what to do. If the mayor was a leader, he would have done EVERYTHING neccessary a week in advance and taken the ass-chewing like a man if the hurricane suddenly dissipated...true leaders don't wait for instructions fron incompetants like FEMA or the Governor of Louisiana, leaders act decisively and the hell with the consequences as long as lives are saved.....hundreds, if not thousands of school busses sat in parking lots, flooded out of commission, due to inaction on the mayor's part; these buses could have saved lives.....yet, the Black leaders in America would rather feed the conspiracy parasites with lies such as the levees were intentionally blown up to save white sections of New Orleans, thus drowning many black citizens....you live in Europe; isn't that what you're reading?
How many did they lose because the American government saw the threat to New Orleans and decided to do nothing about it even though you quite clearly had the resources to do so?
