I mentioned in another thread that I view the person across the board not as the enemy, but as my game partner as it were.
Without them I could not play. It's chess. I love to play chess. I would certainly rather lose than not get to play. So I need them - that does not sound like an enemy to me.
Over the board we shake hands before and after the game. Same here - for me anyway - a good luck with the first white move (1. c5) and a good game - maybe a comment - when I resign in humiliation.
I was wondering how the Greek chorus here thinks about the opponent. Kinship? Animosity? Something else?
Every game here is a "friendly" - we are not playing for money.

My opponent is not my enemy, his pieces are. ๐

Friendly before the game and friendly after. But during the game, I am out for blood, irrespective of my opponent.

"... Where do you stand on freckles?..."
Had a high school girlfriend with freckles. Thought I would be romantic, so I told her I wanted to give each of her freckles a kiss. She called me a perv and dumped me.
