Where can one find out about how the site started, who the pilgrim members were, why it all went so horribly wrong...(joke)
Who was here first?
Back when Russ went by 'Ruzz' and Chris went by 'Chrismo'.
Although this is probably more useful - http://web.archive.org/web/20010402045409/http://www.redhotpawn.com/

Whatever happened to the Drone Player they're talking about on the first page?????
Rival was written by Chris, or maybe Chris and Russ worked on it together. I think writing that program was a university project for Chris before they put the RHP site on the internet, if I remember correctly.
Anyway, if a member wanted to play against the chess program instead of playing another member, that option was available. It was a "ready opponent" back in the days when there were just a few members here.
This might be a useful link if it works for you. Some of the individual links allow you to access some of the original forum pages, player tables, etc. On others I had problems connecting to everything, but it does give you a little glimpse into the early days of this site and relive some of the "drama".

We have been a bit "off mission" recently, busy taking a good look at Android.
An android version of Rival Chess will be released...well, ASAP, really. We will release a fairly basic version initially (the engine is solid though) with the intention of developing it further if it gets any interest. Much of the code can be used for a future native Android RHP project, should we choose to do one.
