Now, now. I think they were both fine movies, though I prefer Oz. I don't think
Oz was an obviously better choice than GWTW, and I think the particular moral
and social climate of the time helped influence its decision over the more abstractly
sentimental Oz.

Just an opinion, though.

I thought that was obvious since the day Forest Gump won best Oscar, instead of Pulp Fiction.

You know I would agree with you but I think Shawshank Redemption was a better movie than both of them and I love Pulp Fiction. I believe it was nominated in the same year.

The Oscars always suck.

Wouldn't Lord of the Rings be considered a sci-fi movie?

And you would be correct. Though hollywood still has a hard time discerning between the two. When I owned my video store sci-fi and fantasy were seperated.

Nemesio : My point was that the hollywood oscars do not reflect the coice of the people. I don't need a film critic nor the hollywood elite to tell me which movie is a masterpiece, or which one I should like.

If we were to speak about the ones that had social impact, or were well acted, or had merit in the history of our world, we would be congratulating Hotel Rwanda.

I thought Blade Runner was oh so close to greatness, but flawed.

What ever happened to Rutger Hauer anyhow??? Reading his list of credits on IMDB, in large part it appears he's been in mostly crap since about 1986. He has always been one of my all-time favourite creepy guys.

Hittin' the sauce, perhaps?

Hmm, after watching Blade Runner and The Hitcher, I went through a phase of watching every Rutger Hauer film I could.
Mostly, though, they were crap.

Well I think the last thing he was in was Confessions of a Dangerous Mind with Sam Rockwell & George Clooney. He had a small part but he was good.

Still Roy Batty was the man.

Hey, if she has a good time it's worth every cent. People often don't understand the importance of "doing things". The simple act of doing something enjoyable resets the mind and rejuvenates the individual. It gives them memories that they will recall and announce for years to come.

I really like Sam Rockwell. In one year he had three movies out: The Green Mile, where is was a sadistic murderer, A Midsummer Night 's Dream, where he was a sweet and innocent man, and Charlie's Angels, where he appeared to be a nice man, but turned out to be a crazy madman. He was so excellent in all three, and nearly unrecognizable as the same actor.

The Oscars really were boring this year. The only good thing was jamie Fox's acceptance speech. The rest was just a race to see how quickly they could get it all over with. There was no heart or soul to it. The dresses were pretty though.
