Therefore, the Simpsons' Springfield is everywhere and nowhere all at once. Keep watching!!
It also shows that Lyle Lanley was a bit of a spinmeister, and he put those names on the mpa himself. Thus, he may have put them anywhere to show Springfieldians that he had travelled all over America, so he must be good.
In reply to an ancient question - "Which Springfield do they live in?".. I think it is Springfield, Ohio. Two reasons why.
1. In "Black Widower", The Simpsons drive to Shelbyville, and the sign says it's 34 miles away. The Springfield in Ohio does have a nearby Shelbyville. (However, this fact is contradicted in "Lemon of Troy", which suggests that Shelbyville is within walking distance.)
2. In "Sunday, Cruddy Sunday", Marge is giving her address to some company which sold her a shoddy construction set. She says "742 Evergreen Terrace, Springfield, Oh, hiya Maude, come on in!" The way she says "Oh, hiya" sounds like Ohio.
Here's a question which may provoke much debate - which is the best musical number on the Simpsons?
