@suzianne said"You took four years to get through high school?!" --Sheldon (to Penny).
Many kids who could become valedictorians don't because school is so easy they get bored.
I was bored to tears in HS. Incredibly, in retrospect, the school let us (the computer science students) have unfettered access to the school mainframe computer. All of the school records were on there. There were no passwords. We could feed in any self-written program (IBM punch cards in those days), let it run overnight, and pick up the result the next morning. Without going into too much detail, let's just say that I amassed enough credits to graduate early (I was clever enough to remain inconspicuous, I did not give myself straight A's) and it never came to light. I think that was a masterly performance, worthy of early graduation, if not a valedictorian's speech.
@suzianne saidAs it did beneath Euwe's? Anderssens? Botwinniks? De Firmian? Arpad Elo? Keres? Jonathan Mestel? John Nunn? Speelman? Vidmar?
Just guessing it might fall beneath the professor's attention threshold.
Lasker!?
And that's just a few I could find who graduated in maths or the hard sciences. If we include doctors and professors in the softer subjects, the field widens even more. You might recognise the name of Hou Yifan.
A bit of reverse snobbery going on there, don't you think you should admit?

Sheldon, the ultimate stupid Hollywood writer's idea of a clever person. I can't stand that show.

It appears Lemon still doesn't believe me.

I just wasn't able to formulate a plan either attacking or defense. You can only teach someone so much then they have to do the work it takes. Some don't and we see where they are. At least he was able to maintain a 1200 rating! π π I will give him that! Also he really did try, I think the migraines gave him a lot of problems!

migraines now
@gertrude saidLook at my original post and you will see where I said he had migraines!
oh
migraines now
You rant before you look.
Here I'll make it easy for you:
@gertrude said
are you saying that a physics professor could not grasp the fundamentals of chess?
hard to believe
YUP.... I thought so too. He knew how all the pieces moved, just couldn't form a plan to attack or a defense he could use. He did have some issues with migraines which could have been the issue in concentrating. Just my opinion of course. He did manage to get a rating at our club of a little over 1200!
What you and others want to believe is entirely up to yourselves. This is a true event which happened back some years ago.

@ghost-of-a-duke saidI remember the days, not so long ago, when you used to say stuff like this to Very Rusty.
Smartest person on the forums?
I doubt sir you are the smartest person on your sofa.
But of course him recently (and curiously) becoming a member of the club you specifically created to exclude him from the forum, is now excused your partisan snide.
