My PC has an Intel processor, EVGA motherboard, Nvidia graphics card, OCZ ram, Sony dvd writer, a Seagate harddrive and a Western Digital harddrive and a Gigabyte chassis.
What would you call it? I built it myself. Compaq suxx, dude.
I know Compaq sucks but unfortunately the IT Purchaser here doesn't share our opinions.

What do you call a computer that is not a Mac?
Usually computers will be Macs or PCs, but Macs are PCs, so how do you differentiate?
Complete the following sentence for 1000 points:
"That laptop that you have stolen in the middle of the night, is it a Macintosh or a .......?"
The easiest way to find out would be to ask what format the op ...[text shortened]... ive is (NTFS or FAT), but they could trick you with DOS!
HELP PLEASE. I NEED TO KNOW ASAP.
I have a laptop.
'PC or Mac'?
PC, you silly little man.

having a difficulty to differentiate between a mac and a pc sounds like a mac-person having an existential crisis after the apple propaganda has hit the ground of reality. it's not like there was a huge difference before, power-pcs vs. pcs. the name 'mac' is totally anachronic as there haven't been macintoshes around for a long time. even the cisc vs. risc thing was pure marketing, as the risc instruction sets grew just as big as the cisc sets right after the first risc processors. it was inevitable, the need for speed just forced the special functionality closer and closer to the core. and ibm just couldn't deliver the muscle, apple was lagging behind in hw for 10 years, until they recently switched to intel. the 'inferior technique' as apple propaganda had told people for a decade, became 'top of the line' overnight. just because apple marketing people got a new agenda.
apple sold people an image, a brand, even a lifestyle, which they bought hook, line and sinker. it never had anything to do with the hardware, so why should it have now?
a pc is a pc and a mac is a mac. a laptop can be either. it's as simple as that.
Mac is a brand name, like IBM or Dell. Originally that brand was also differentiated from the other computer brands by not uisng Intel chips, or having windows, but a Mac OS. These days the line has been blurred by cross-platform technology, but Macs still retain a certain identity through the wonderful medium of silly colours and curved shapes.
Originally posted by st00p1dfac3Its only a PC in the sense they chose an intel processor. They still use mac 10 OS. That is really what differentiates a Mac from a PC.
This is the best answer, since Mac owners are referring to their PC's by the brand name, then the equivalent would be a brand name.
If you've built your own you'll need to invent a brand name (I suggest Generico &trade😉 or refer to it as a "bespoke" PC.
Who gives a crap what CPU they use? Its the operating system that gives a computer its soul.

Originally posted by hopscotchI bought a PC and installed a Mac O.S. once. Then I installed Linux Suse, Switched to UNIX, and then back to Win xp pro that it came with. My hard drive is confused but proves I think that the statement is an xbox.
