@ponderable saidThis should be at the head of every forum page, just to remind potential posters of the consequences of disruptive posting.
@Very-Rusty
My grandfather used to quote:
"Any silly boy can smash a caterpillar in an instant, but all the wise in the world can't get it back to life."
@very-rusty saidYou're the first responder I expected. Yes, my post was aimed at you. You turn many threads into mush with your me-me-me approach to posting. I keep hoping that one day you'll figure out that pointless posting is destructive. Yeah, I know you have the right to say whatever you want, but that gives me the right to criticise you for doing it.
Do you think it would do any good kewpie? 😉

@kewpie saidOf course your post was aimed at me, I am not half as unknowing as most think! 😉

Correct you are kewpie and that is what makes for lively forum(s) people who don't agree on things. Think about how boring it would get if everyone agreed on everything? 😉

@very-rusty saidThat doesn't go for all threads - many topics are interesting just because people agree and develop their ideas.

What is boring though is if somebody disagrees for sake of disagreeing - it doesn't usually lead to anything.
@torunn saidYou mean it is ok if everyone agrees with what YOU have to say?

Or Kewpie is ok if everyone agrees with what she has to say?
People should agree or disagree depending on what they think. That makes for discussion as well. We are doing that now! 😉

@very-rusty saidIt's not about not agreeing on things, it's about not sucking the life out of threads, especially the interesting ones.

@ghost-of-a-duke saidThat's what I was trying to say. You said it better.
It's not about not agreeing on things, it's about not sucking the life out of threads, especially the interesting ones.
@ghost-of-a-duke saidHow can the life be sucked out of something if it is that interesting goad?
It's not about not agreeing on things, it's about not sucking the life out of threads, especially the interesting ones.
It is more about talking about things you and the little group are interested in and not getting involved in them because that is very disruptive in your opinion! 😉
NEVER disagree with anything said by anyone in the little group right. 😉

I have a proposition for you VR.
Choose any thread with more than 50 posts.
Read through it and watch the way that poster 1 says something, poster 2 either agrees or disagrees, but interesting posters add something either in support of or in contradiction of poster 1's idea.
Then Poster 3, or possibly poster 1 again, adds another point one way or the other, but still contributing to the narrative.
Enter poster 4. This poster disrupts the conversation by posting something which is not relevant to the conversation. Like the kid in the playground who joins the group and immediately tries to change the subject.
Please think about this. There's no reason that you can't be welcomed into the group, apart from your own actions. I'm not attacking you, I'm trying to help make it more fun for people to be in the forums.
@moonbus saidI'm seldom in the Culture forum. This piece is fantastic, so funny, all of them great. Love it!
@Ponderable
Hey, I created a thread over at Culture and no one even noticed. No reply, no TD no TU. Nix. Nada.
Do I get a prize, or what?
