EDIT: It's baking hot down here Nordles!!! You should have moved to the Norwegian tropics.

I don't like it baking hot. But something in between would be nice.
Well I don't know. It definitely looked like this thread.

It IS perfect temperature down here and I know that because no less than five minutes ago "big ant day" started and that only happens on the very best days.

Has big ant day started up your way yet?

Are Norway's southerners like America's southerners?

BIG ANT DAY!!!

The day of the big ants silly!! The day all the big ants with wings come out and fly into your food, car, ear, nightmares etc etc!

Big ant day was about a week ago in the UK and is just starting now in the Norwegian tropics and I guess will be with you in a couple of days.

It's the other way around in Norway.

Up north, they eat rocks, seagulls eggs and spend weeks trying to work out what the polar bear piss in the snow means. They also spend all winter in total darkness and then try and tell everybody how great summer is because daytime is far longer than is reasonable and totally disregard the fact that for most people, summer means temperature higher than in the fridge.

Sounds nasty. I have never had any big ants with wings fly into my food, car (okay, I don't have one, so that doesn't count), ear or nightmares.

Well, I'll go to the foot of our stairs (as they used to, quite inexplicably, say)

I'll send you some big ants with wings on.

Actually, joking aside it is quite remarkable. I was chillin' in the garden and noticed a few normal (ie non-big, non-wing sporting) ants getting a little tense and running about a bit. Then suddenly, BIG ANTS ALERT!!

Hundreds of ants took the air like seeds from a dandelion up into the air. All off on a little adventure (though mostly I suspect the adventure stops in some swallows beak). I went up to the balcony and just watched them go. It is amazing. It happens every year (everywhere!) and these big buggers all come out at exactly the same time all over the place. It lasts for about half an hour but you can find these things everywhere for a couple of hours or so.
