So one one of the very rare occasions that I ever leave my house I do the usual leave the dor unlocked for the kids incase I'm a couple minutes late (traffic can be insane here) It's 3 o clock, they're coming home time, and I'm rounding the corner with my girlfriend to head to my house.

Cop car up the road traffic conjested and nobody is being allowed to continue on down the road. Not even 3 blocks away from my house. Officer says that nobody is allowed past due to safety issues. Explain my kids are on their way home, I need to get there....no can do.

Pull over to where everyone else is and start to wonder what's going on. People talk and apparently there's a guy running around with a gun. My neighbor comes over and lends me her cell phone....schools are all on lock down and are not yet sure which kids are listed in each class as the lock down occured right at the end of school. No answer at my house so they're not home. Can anyone say precurser to a heart attack. Nothing like good old fashioned fear to get your ticker going!

Thankfully it took less than an hour for police to get things under control and for me to highyail it home. A message on my phone assured me my kids were in fact in the school and on their way home.

It wasn't until after the panic mode wore off that I began thinking of the woman who was screamimg at the road block officer some time earlier. She was in her vehicle having a fit as her 13 year old daughter was let off on the highway by the city transit. I saw this happening as I was behind the bus when all the kids got off. They all walked right into the danger area. Anyway this woman was having a fit on this poor guy
understandably upset) She was yelling about her door being unlocked and asking if he was going to go lock her door. Her 13 year old just walked into an area with a gun toting madman on the loose and she wanted him to go lock up her house.

My house too was unlocked and not for one split second did I give a rats arse about my house or anything in it unles it was my children. I too went and spoke to the officer in regards to my kids and never thought the best approach would be to yell hysterically at the only person in any position to mabye help in the situation if my kids were caught in the middle of something dangerous.

Mabye it's just me but I think it may be time to think about relocating. 😕

Honestly I think not you should be too hysterical.

On one hand you obviously live in an area where you can let your house door unlocked. On the other hand there are some armed psycos in your area. Besides the fact that he would no doubt be able to open your door (specially when armed) so if he wanted he could have gain entry.

When you thinkt to move do it for the right reasons and always bear in mind that a relocation is always a big stress factor for your kid(s).

Either you choose to move into some rich area where the cops are off the leash to protect the values or you choose to move more on the countryside.
When choosing to move into a richer area you would have to bear a serious increase in your rental fee.
When choosing to move more into countryside you would have a helluva bigger way to work or have to change your working place. Besides that your kids will be pis... off because there are no cool places around and when they grow up you would have to drive them a lot more to enable them to meet their friends or go party or buy them a car.

I would like to advise you to speak with somebody (like your bro) about your plans and make a decision after you heard other opinions and have slept over it. Then wait for the school year to end and do it if you then still want it.

Does this occur for the first time and this idio.. is just one psycho I would consider giving my kids mace gas cans or just arrange with neighbourhood parents a pick-up service (you should rotate) to assure the safety of my kids. And give them a key (and the extra key for the new lock you should buy). I were given a key at a quite young age (7 to 9 ?) and grew on this. Lost the key once and my father was really kind of sadded and dissapointed so I was embarrassed to saddened my father and never ever lost my keys till now.
Additionally you would be a little more sure that your kids are safe. Speak with them what to do in such a situation (don´t run or run etc.) and give them an old mobile (in Germany with a old expired mobile you still can call the emergency lines and can be reached on the phone).

I try to feel with you (but I have no kids). This ass.... don´t know what they do to mothers and fathers even if nothing happened.)

I would be more worried if parents started giving their school-age kids Mace.

Allright. I Forgot about the young age of the kids.
Sorry for that. Seems to be more a hint when they are a little older.
Was just an attempt to provide a little safety without arming them (is mace right in Germany its called CS gas its a gas which make the attacker loose sight because his eyes are puting out tears, lame description sorry)

Better way for school kids: There are key chains (designed for women to be affective as a security against rape). When you pull a trigger there an outstanding loud screaching sound repeats itself a dozen times (until the trigger is put back in and again locked. This would work better for your kids.

Brave new world with such beautiful people living in it.
Poor times when one have to fear for its children.

Again sorry for the mace advise

You can leave your doors unlocked? Sounds idyllic. Here, it's high fence, electric gates, electric garage, perimeter sensor lights, burglar bars, alarm system, security company and lots of homicidal maniacs with guns. Be thankful.

This was a nice small town with nothing ever happening. Because the of the oil it has now become a looney bin. I do feel safe during the day leaving my door unlocked, I've never had any fear doing this. At night of course we're shut in tight as I live next to some wild party people and all these houses look the same. Drunks try to get into the wrong house sometimes late at night.

I would never make such a haste decision to just up and move with my kids. But time to start considering all possibilities. I do dream of a little acreage somewhere quite.

This is the second school lock down in the matter of months here. The other one was in another area and lasted for 3 or 4 days. An armed man kept held up in his semi truck and they had to send up officers from out of town.

As with any place on earth when the money is flowing the crazies will come.

I found out from my kids that some guy came running into their school with no shirt on (It's -20C here) and crying hysterically telling teachers to call the cops because some guy with a gun was threatening to kill everyone, Sounds more like the age old "you slept with my wife and now I'll kill you" kind of thing to me.

I feel it's just tragic what has happened to this once safe and pleasant little town. All in the name of the great and almighty dollar.

My kids said there were grade 8 kids all crying and scared. Can't imagine things like that do very much for a childs sense of security. I also can't help but turn my thoughts to kids who grow up with this sort of thing as a normal part of everyday life. I can't imagine the coping mechanisms you would have to develope in order to survive.

We have the same things happening here, in Flint, Michigan. And I know that the same stuff happens all over the USA. SO let me tell you what the women do here (who are in your situation)...

They find a man who beats the crap outta anybody who messes with them.

Yeah, and they screw the livin' daylights outta this guy (sexually) and guess what!? He will KILL anybody who even comes close to being a threat to you and your family!

It works. It has worked over a thousand years and it continues to work.

Ok, to reiterate... YOU are one fine, foxy lady. Hook yourself up with a local tough. You can make him fall in love with you... and he'll DO ANYTHING to protect his territory!

Cheers
🙂
