Another thing about the bbc. During the war coverage, there was a bit on the tv about the bbc monitoring centre, where they can watch pretty much any programs going out on air, at the time they were watching al jazier (spelling) and the rest of the arabic channels. I mean, who the hell pays for that???? I`ll bet it comes out of the licence fees. Personally i think it should be scrapped and just have commercials like everyone else.

Yeah! We pay a tv licence so the BBC can flood us with endless rubbish! Constant Soaps, Simpsons Repeats (same episode shown 10 times a year, I love the Simpsons, but this is overkill!), and the joys of DIY. At Least their footy coverage is good!...

The BBC does get accused of producing some of the best TV and radio in the world so I don't think it can be a bad thing, whereas I get the impression that US 'public service' is widely regarded as a joke (?)

Radio is free. ...[text shortened]... te only. The big joke a few years back was that you got a discount if you were blind - of £0.97!
American TV is a total joke but The Simpsons rule the earth 🙂

yeah, they fill most of the airtime with repeats & rubbish. But they do get it right sometimes:

Only Fools & Horses
Monty Python
One Foot in the Grave
The Office
Anything by David Atenborough
Faulty Towers...

This list could be a lot longer. I know we see these programs again & again, but they are some of the best ever produced (the first 3 times around anyway).

Ive lost count of how many times the Simpsons episode where Lisa cheats in the maths exam after being off sick has been shown by the BBC this year alone, there are over 300 eps of the Simpsons, but they only seem to have about 20 which are just continously repeated over and over and over.............

I hope you guys in the UK keep supporting Auntie BBC because it is much better than the commercial garbage that is being broadcasted by a lot of companies all over Europe !

I believe in theory you still need a license for radio as well, but when cars started having radios and portable radios became very popular it was decided that it was an impossible levy to succcessfully collect. I am more than happy to pay my TV licence without the BBC all channels would have more adverts - last time I was in the US there were adverts before the last line in a show. ie you would get an advert break then one line then the credits would roll then another advert break couldn't cope with that.

ive no problem with the licence if i had freedom of choice but the fact is is you canot seperate from sky since they put a channel on there so evan if you complain as i have the best reply is WE DO OUR BEST TO SATISFY EVERY ONE BUT THIS IS NOT ALWAYS POSIBLE to my mind its a way of saying just pay us and we decide what you want to watch

well, it covers that, plus the digital channels, plus the radio plus what is still one of the best web sites going. Not bad for £130.
not bad for £130 are you off your tiny little head if they would just advertise then there would be NO fee i hate paying for the crap they put on tv if you want to pay for sky or cable the choice is yours but you could watch 500 channels and not watch the bbc but you still have to pay for it i think its SHOCKING they get away with it the trading standards should shut them down.😠

There was some suggestion a while ago, that the good old British Government wanted to add a tax on top of your standard road tax to cover peoples car radios, now they really are taking the Michael Bliss!!!!!
