Not only that, it had the Felicity of distinguishing Things from Deeds at a Glance.

Gulliver's Travels were written in that style, to name one example of a fantastic book written funny.

I have to say it helps me with German -- things get a little complicated sometimes and visual aids help!

Andy is perfectly correct. The use of 'and' in the context it was used is called a 'conjunction'. A conjunction joins two sentences which could be independent of each other, but it is easier and much better English to join them. The sentence I just wrote also contains the conjunction 'but.' Note the comma before 'but'!! 😉
