I don't understand, I mean Vista is crap with anything that's not a microsoft product. You must use some non-microsoft products?

Please provide a list of programs you use, I'm interested to know how it balances against what I imagine most users might use.

Dreamweaver (Adobe)
Vegas (Sony)
Nestopia (Unknown, freeware)
SNES Emulator that I can't remember the name of (Unknown, freeware)
Lately, Audacity (Open source)
SciTE (Scintilla)
Firefox (Mozilla, open source)
Thunderbird (Mozilla, open source)
I can't think right now, I'm at work, but that's a good sample...
Browsers would simply have to anyway. What version of Photoshop? I've tried CS2 and it doesn't work properly, though not sure what build of vista it was on. Flash MX didn't work, 3DSMax didn't, nor Logic, Avast antivirus, After Effects 6.5, my mobile phone application, my wacom tablet drivers or my digital camera software.
Many of the programs I've tried install and begin to run, but are functionality impaired, plugins don't work and crashes often ocurr. I'd say I noticed a drop/crash/fail in about 60% of my programs that worked on XP
Originally posted by StarrmanLatest Photoshop, again, not at home so I can't be too specific, but I want to say Photoshop CS 7 maybe. I've only crashed Vista twice, once when I was screwing around with the processor voltage to get longer battery life, and once when I downloaded some junk it didn't like... not sure but I think it was ChessDB.

Edit - FF is bogey, but it has been at work where it's on an XP machine, since the last update. Likes to stop working. It worked fine before I updated the last time though.
I stuck an OEM copy of Vista on my home machine, and after :
-all driver issues were resolved
-I bought a new mobo.
-I bought more memory.
-I bought a new CPU.
I now have a machine that runs just as well as XP did previously! Fantastic – now that is progress! (In fairness, it runs far faster, but only because the hardware is now far superior to my old kit.)
Regarding the drivers, it took quite some time for developers to catch up, but my problems were eventually all resolved. So things are probably getting better already on this front.
All my apps work.
Upgrade cost (time and money!) was quite substantial - at least OEM Vista is a bargain.
I would only consider it if you are an enthusiast. I only upgraded out of curiosity and because Vista Home premium has Media Server built in. (Very useful if you have a xbox 360.)

I've had no problems with Vista at all. Of course I started with a new Dual core 2.8GHz and 4GB of ram. I'm using RealVNC http://www.realvnc.com if that would serve your purpose.
Anyhow, Vista works great for everything I use it for. Mostly:
Photoshop CS2 and Lightroom
Maya
3DSMax
Solidworks
SolidEdge
AutoCAD
Other everyday apps:
Firefox
Thunderbird

I think me convinced the Boss to purchase more xp's. So we can keep moving forward.
I spoke with a few linksys beta testers yesterday and the word is VPN quick client won’t be ready until early next year. As it is not high on the to do list for them.
