Radio by Heavy Vegetable

I never listen to the radio.
But if they want to play our stuff that's okay with me.
But if they want to play our stuff that's okay with me.

They don't play Slint on the radio.
They don't play Sentridoh.
They don't play Zappa.
They don't play Beefheart.
They don't play Can.
They don't play The Residents.
They don't even play The Velvet Underground,
Ronaldo and the Loaf,
or Bongos Bass and Bob.

They don't play Wesley Willis, oh no. (Nuh-uh)
They don't play Stacatto Reeds, oh no. (Nuh-uh)
They don't play The Shaggs, oh no. (Nope. Nuh-uh!)
Sometimes they will play De-vo.
Devo.

Iggy Pop - Beside You

Only Iggy can pull off a wall of guitars ballad that is genuine and beautiful and not schmaltzy.

Interpol 'Antics', and i have to say i remain unimpressed after several listens. why do people rave about this band, and why the Joy Division comparisons? the singer sounds more like Stan Ridgeway than Ian Curtis...

You philistine. That album is beautiful!

However I concur that the Ian Curtis comparisons are unwarranted but that's not to say that his baritone is extremely lulling and fantastic...

EDIT - How are you, by the way?

Hi there Darv - i'm insanely busy preparing a PhD proposal, marking some first-year essays and other study-related stuff. on the good side, my g/f flew in from Nairobi last Tuesday. how 'bout you?

just to keep on-topic: i've just finished listening to disc 1 of the final Ziggy Stardust concert, and now i'm listening to Muse 'Absolution'...

EDIT: i just don't get the Interpol thing - but i haven't really sat down and listened to all the lyrics properly - musically it seems ok but nothing to rave about...

EDIT: it's probably about time to spring Electric Wizard on the g/f - all her stuff is African gospel/praise music, so it might come as a bit of a shock. still, she's familiar with a lot of my more abrasive stuff already, so perhaps not...
