Actually, I doubt this would bother most vegans, who tend to have a beef (oh dear) with perceived problems with farming practices, the effects of animal products on human health or the causation of unnecessary suffering. It's possible to have a defensibly vegan lifestyle without objecting to predation of the sort that cats engage in, and I suspect this ...[text shortened]... en thing is a good idea. Also, why aren't we running our power plants on our feces 😉?

Well my cat died a few years ago aged 19, but I always fed her stuff like Sheba, Whiskas, Gourmet, Go Cat, Felix and the like, with fresh crab sticks for a special treat. As said cat didn't express a moral or dietary disposition to avoiding meat nor ever tried to force it on me, I was only too happy to give her the stuff she liked most. As a consequence ...[text shortened]... he did me the great decency of never ever bringing it into conversation, so we were both happy.

Only on the last day. Before then the finance was a family affair, mainly my dad who she lived with.
Originally posted by ChronicLeakyIt seems too much hassle to me, I opted to breed tins and small aluminium sachets.

Vegans forcing their poor carnivore pets to eat veggies as well, is as twisted as hypothetical gay pet owners who (a) deny their pet to have intercourse with other animals of opposite sex, or (b) force their pet to have intercourse with other pets of the same sex.
Carnivore, straight pets need meat and sex!

*Is anyone here RHP-old enough to remember Rapalla7 and the "false analogies"?

I used to have a 70+ neighbor who had a dog, a French Poodle. The poor little bastard humped everything that moved: sweepers, legs, flower vases, chairs, toys, you name it. One day I asked the lady, while chatting in the elevator, why didn't she search for a girlfriend for poor Rufus so he could go to town, to which she replied, angry and yelling, "I've been a virgin all my life! If I took it, he can take it!"
From that day on, I didn't know if to report the lady to the animal protection authorities or to slap her in public.
I moved from the building later on, but I always kept in my mind the evil plan to get a street dog and sneak it to her house, so the poor Rufus (or whatever his name was) could have some afternoon delight.

Originally posted by wormwoodI know one person who is vegan and feeds xyr animals only vegan food. Most (possibly all) xyr animals are rescued animals, so if xe hadn't taken them in, they wouldn't be alive. I think that's a good reason for keeping them as pets.
that's just horrible. vegans who force their carnivore pets to meatless diets shouldn't be allowed to have pets to begin with.
I mean, that's not only mindbogglingly estranged from nature, but simply sick. leave the poor animals alone!
how's a vegan able to justify keeping a pet in the first place? I'm a devout omnivore, and I still have philosophical ...[text shortened]... pets in city. denying that pet from its natural diet is way past what's acceptable for me.
As for denying your cat a natural diet, any cat food you buy is pretty far from a cat's natural diet. One argument against feeding cats a vegan diet is that cats need taurine, which can only be found naturally in animal products. But it also gets destroyed when meat is processed, so you actually need to add synthetically produced taurine even to meat-based cat food.
In other words, while I wouldn't do this myself, I don't think it's necessarily sick or cruel. And Jim's cats and dogs seemed very happy and healthy (the cats were checked very thoroughly by a veterinarian who didn't believe in a vegan diet for cats, and were found to be perfectly healthy) and clearly liked their food.
