You're lucky you weren't robbed, maybe any potential robbers thought you were in the house as I have left the key in my frount door after opening it so many times that I'm sure other people do it.

How much of a risk this is very much depends on where you live. I live in a backwater which shall remain nameless. Nothing much happens here; crime is, I'm happy to say, low. Had I pulled this trick in Amsterdam, my car wouldve been a goner, no two ways about it.
