I love Kubrik as well. CLockwork Orange is amazing!
I prefer Casablance to "to have and have not"

My cousin has a music credit on both Clockwork Orange and The Shining, Rachel Elkind...no bs.

Two very cool movies

I think beyond any doubt it had to be the 70's. Here is a partial list:

Godfather I & II
Dog Day Afternoon
French Connection
Rocky I
Star Wars IV - A New Hope

Does anybody disagree?
The 40s were great for "Americana", westerns, cops and robbers...
50s were great for westerns, comedy, horror ("The thing", "The Blob"😉..
60s were great for westerns (Clint's spaghetti westerns),
70s were great for cop movies...Durty Harry ruled
80s-90s and beyond...lots of good and bad...all genres

Annie Hall is better than Godfather I or II? Citizen Kane? Casablanca? Just to name a few better movies. And this just ain't me saying it.....😛

In fact, I went to view the AFI top 100 movies and Annie Hall was number 31:

1. CITIZEN KANE (1941)

2. CASABLANCA (1942 ...[text shortened]... EASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE (1948)

31. ANNIE HALL (1977)

32. THE GODFATHER PART II (1974)
AFI? Who died and made them the boss?

Let's look at some of these "top 100" movies:

5. Lawrence Of Arabia? Give me a break. Sure, it was a good movie, but how many times have you seen it? Once? None? I saw half of it once.

10. Singin' In The Rain? It was mildly amusing, but I certainly hope I don't have to sit through it a second time within the next decade.

15. Star Wars. Let's see...who won the Oscar for Best Motion Picture in 1977? It wasn't Star Wars. Guess who it was? You're right, it was Annie Hall.

20. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. Damn fine movie. It might give Annie Hall a run for it's money.

22. 2001: A Space Odyssey. Come on! Everybody puts that one high up on the list because they don't want to look stupid for not having the slightest idea what was going on.

Of the 32 movies on that list, there are 15 I haven't seen.

Well who died and said Woody Allen is the greatest American director? LOL 😛

Okay I admit I have not seen Lawrence of Arabia and to be honest I have no desire to.

I wasn't into Singing in the Rain but it was okay

It is a sham that your Annie Hall beat out Star Wars. Total sham but I live with it, I suppose.

Cuckoo's Nest is great and I agree with you on 2001

There are a whole bunch I haven't seen either

😀

Well...

The 1970's don't come off very well in that chart.
HOWEVER...any chart that says that ET should be in the top 1000 should be taken with a severe pinch of salt.

WHAT????????????????????????????????????????????????

Shawshank was great and it was cheated out of best picture by Forrest Gump. I mean honestly, what was Gump about? Happy Retard wins the Life Lottery and just happens to be at the right place at the right time?

Pulp Fiction was better than Gump but I think Shawshank was better than Pulp.

But hey, ET is revolting I agree with you there 😵

OH NO!!!!

All credibility has just been flushed down the drain....

What on earth do you mean Shawshank was better than Pulp????

Originiality: Pulp
Dialogues: Pulp
Acting: well, could go both ways
Story line: Pulp
Humour: Pulp
Trend setting: Pulp
Coolness: pulp

The only reason pulp fiction did not receive that oscar, is because it was politically less correct than Gump.

And being the Hanks hater I am, I am in no position to objectively oppose Hanks....BUT I DO!!!

Shawshank was good, even very good, but Pulp was Genius. Forrest is just plain boring. I actually greatly like Hanks as an actor, but Frankly his perforance in Bachelor Party is several divisions ahead of anything he had to do in F.G.
The first time I saw Pulp, I thought it was brilliantly made ... writing, directing and acting ... but thought it it was flashy and amoral, .. but seeing it again I think there are many levels of subtlety and humour involved ... and it is just an amazingly powerful and funny black comedy ... absolutly not to everyone's taste ... but a great film ...

Please tell me what was so great about it? The acting is no better than many other films of the time. The storyline is pretty down the line. It has a sickening ending and teh cinematography is plain normal. Why do people rate this film so highly? I just don't get it. Sure it's a good film, but I know people who think it is the best film they've seen. It is just and average-good film with no overawing features at all.
