No you are right.
S.F. is it for them?
Let us look:
You think what is true and what is not:
1) You are alive.Who Gave you life?
2) You are independent of control.Who gave you this freedom that you enjoy?
You are in control of your life.Don't waste it.
Linda
If some big all-powerful being made everything, who made him/her/it?
It goes on forever like this.
Linda - You highlighted one of my points - we don't understand or know the origins of life, so it's essentially impossible to extrapolate the prevalence of life outside the realm of our own experience (ie. other planets/solar systems, etc.) Given the fact that life seems to exist in almost any imaginable place on earth (inside active volacanoes, underneath antarctic ice, at the top of mount everest and the bottom of the ocean) I would assume that it should be plentiful - but I would still be basing that assumtion on one example.
I feel like your other point is not really relevant to this discussion - whether free will exists or not, actions will be taken, and those actions will eventually lead to known consequences - on this planet or any other.

If we consider the earth as a model for the galaxy in terms of evolution / planatary life, consider also the present dynamic of earth existance.
There is one sentient / dominant species (us) that is slowly and surely upping the extinction rate of other species (that might have one day become sentient), and then there is the far more dominant species (insects) that we forget to notice.
On a galxay model, this same model might pan out to a single 'sentient' species that by its actions: intentional; unintentional or just misconceived, will promote its own dominance while holding back any other species, often by means of extinction, from challenging that dominance.
And of course the insects go marching on regardless.
Maybe we should consider ourselves an up-and-comming sentient lifeform (ripe for extinction), or perhaps our sentience is of such a low level in comparison we are better modelled by the insects...

2 more posibilities that spring to mind:
i) the creationist theory - that the universe is only 7000 years old, that we didn't evolve but were put here. So we are the only planet with intelegent life and no other life has evolved because evolution doesn't exist and the universe isn't old enough for it to exist evebn if it did.
ii) the conspiracy theory/MIB theory - there are in fact thousands of interstellar races, and we have detected them, but the authorities don't tell us about them.
Do I get my name added to the theory now?? 😉

Seriously, the 7000 year old earth idea (I won't dignify it by calling it a "theory," since the word has scientific implications devoid from this particular idea) has been abandoned by pretty much everyone, even the vast majority of those in the creationist camp, because there are veritable mountains of scientific evidence showing that it's bunk. I think we should try to maintain some logical standard in entertaining possible answers to this question - otherwise, what about the "theory" that the entire universe is actually made of orange soda, and that an alien species that look like giant dogs with Bob Hope's head have drunk most of it?

My best argument against the "MIB/Conspiracy" theory is that I don't believe any government is competent enough to be able to pull of that sort of mass deception, given their numerous failures in essentially every other arena. Of course, that's just my belief, and proves nothing. But I also see no evidence in support of this possibility, either.

Serious question, becasue (as I've said before) I'm currently researching both sides as impartially as possible. So if you know of some hard evidence that I can look at it could save me some time, but at the moment I have reason to doubt fossil records (like polystrate fossils) & carbon dating (and all the other sorts of isotope degradation dating - the shell of a living snale was recently dated at 27,000 years old). Whereas other similar ways of investigating the age of things (growth or coral reefs, helium efflux in the atmostphere) indicate a much younger earth.
As a vocal representative of The Apostles I felt a need to post something here.
As everyone know's bbarr and I have had a few pokes at each other about evolution vs. creation etc... I have the upmost respect for Mark and would like to invite him in on this to see what his thoughts are.
I personally believe in God and that he created man. However, I do NOT believe in a young earth theory that says we are 7,000 years old. I cannot believe that fossil records were placed here to 'throw us off' or whatever. I also do not believe that science would be very far off on dating the fossils. I know there are some problems but as a whole I believe in the datings.
Mark knows a great deal about things like this so I hope he posts his thoughts. 🙂
Besides, most of the stuff I've said in the clan forums are just to get you guys going... all in good fun! 😉
