Do you think it is possible that people who play chess regularly can improve their memory and logic skills? Or is it a lost cause to try?

As i said i have degrees in soc and pych (BAs) and this stuff interests me. also i have noticed as i have been playing more, my memory at work and in general is a bit sharper than it used to be. I am definitely no Hawkings in the making....but I also believe it makes a difference over time.

I think chess improves mental abilites like logic as well. Of course, I think the people who are naturally better at logic tend to be the ones more likely to play chess. There are some highly logical people in any field. And just for the record I am a microbiology/molecular genetics student with math minor. So add one to the life science and math tallies.
