don't try so hard, relax, and just watch how the pieces flow . as someone already said you have to many things jumbling together and confusing or hindering you. so just set some of those aside and simple it down. so are the words of Chess Guru #1

I believe that you will be able to become a strong player if you put in lots of patience and practice (just by the fact you have a rating beyond 1300). People who really aren't suited to the game are ones who struggle to even grasp the rules, never mind think ahead. These people tend to not go beyond 1000.

In my experience, you need to practice lots and lots of tactics. 🙂

He asked how to improve, not how to exploit rating system in order to gain unrealistic rating points while not improving.

All my friends are above 1400. 🙁 I hate that. There is some chess mania between people I know, everyone who I hang out with plays good.

No quick fix suggestion but i've improved a bit by getting slaughtered in blitz. Lost more than i've won but it burns some useful memories for the longer game. There... not even slightly humorous.

Yes, I go there and I recommended that site to the OP in a pm. 🙂

EDIT: there is another good site for improvement...can't remember it...try googling chess101.
This is a great site:

http://www.chesstactics.org/

Explains various tactical principles and what kind of patterns to look for. Once you have grasped everything there, you can put it into practice on the tactics server.

Practice, practice, practice.

Come back when you've played 1000 games on here and, if your rating isn't above 1600 I'll be surprised.

Oh also, play Tyranosauruschex a lot and send him pictures of naked women whilst you're at it. That'll distract him and you can probably get some nice rating boosts 😀

Sorry I haven't read through all this thread so if you have had a better offer, apologies for bothering you. I am currently teaching my god daughter chess, one of the problems I have is that I can't put myself in the position of knowing nothing, so it's quite hard to empathise with her. Would you be interested in me trying to improve your chess? What will I get out of it? Well it might just give me more teaching experience, if you are interested message me. By the way I know I am no expert, I have no ego so don't worry if you aren't interested I will not be offended.

You are still a strong player (relatively speaking) on this site. I am sure many will benefit from your advice. 🙂

You've played over 800 games.
Are you getting there?

I think what he is trying to say is that so far robbie carrobie has only played 70 games on this site and already has a rating over 1300. I agree that he could have a rating over 1600 after 1000 games.

Does playing many games on this site guarantee a 1600 or higher rating.

I think not.
