i have spent a considerable amount of time playing chess, reading about chess, studying tactics, studying positional problems and i just cannot get any better, in fact i have become worse, do you think that certain persons are just not suited to playing chess, that their minds somehow work differently, i say this as i had a friend who had a first cla ...[text shortened]... ly, i am not humorless, but this is serious man, so keep it real please - thanks regards Robert.
I believe that you will be able to become a strong player if you put in lots of patience and practice (just by the fact you have a rating beyond 1300). People who really aren't suited to the game are ones who struggle to even grasp the rules, never mind think ahead. These people tend to not go beyond 1000.
In my experience, you need to practice lots and lots of tactics. 🙂

Yes, I go there and I recommended that site to the OP in a pm. 🙂
EDIT: there is another good site for improvement...can't remember it...try googling chess101.
http://www.chesstactics.org/
Explains various tactical principles and what kind of patterns to look for. Once you have grasped everything there, you can put it into practice on the tactics server.
Practice, practice, practice.
Come back when you've played 1000 games on here and, if your rating isn't above 1600 I'll be surprised.
Oh also, play Tyranosauruschex a lot and send him pictures of naked women whilst you're at it. That'll distract him and you can probably get some nice rating boosts 😀

I am currently teaching my god daughter chess, one of the problems I have is that I can't put myself in the position of knowing nothing, so it's quite hard to empathise with her. Would you be interested in me trying to improve your chess? What will I get out of it? Well it might just give me more teaching experience, if you are interested message me. By the way I know I am no expert, I have no ego so don't worry if you aren't interested I will not be offended.

I think what he is trying to say is that so far robbie carrobie has only played 70 games on this site and already has a rating over 1300. I agree that he could have a rating over 1600 after 1000 games.
i have spent a considerable amount of time playing chess, reading about chess, studying tactics, studying positional problems etc etc.

Does playing many games on this site guarantee a 1600 or higher rating.
I think not.
