I whole-heartedly support and endorse your statement that you have cared about this forum and its contributors for seven years. During these seven years your comments and thought-provoking ideas have frequently rejuvenated my flagging mind and I salute you for this.

I have not posted anything for quite some time but I still enjoy your comments and the banter on this forum. I will say, however, that if any forum is dying it is the clan forum. I just posted a comment there and then realised when I surveyed the recent postings that this was pointless because the level of activity there is now virtually Marie-Celeste like. I hope that this forum does not go the same way - having eyed it for these seven years I would now diagnose incipient NIDS (new-idea-deficiency-syndrome) despite your excellent prophylactic efforts to treat this.

Thanks for your kind words, Rene. It's my hope that you'll segue from the "clan forum" to this one. Your objective insights and thoughtfulness would benefit the online experience here for us all. I like your diagnosis: "NIDS (new-idea-deficiency-syndrome)". Wonder, though, if NIDS is simultaneously the symptom of low self esteem and mean spirited pessimism.

It's become a reflection of contemporary culture's online forum preoccupation with personality cult and instant gratification.
Alphabetic word games provide structure and continuity which the tempo of contemporary life has fractured and/or denied.
Curiously, a large percentage of the online population wants to see each other on Facebook but with minimal conversation.
Serious economic/security uncertainties have polarized sensibilities: group identity seems to have become a priority need.

But how would someone who just joined even know that? Maybe you should 'fess up on who you used to be here.

Stop it.
It's not dying, no matter how many hundreds of times you say it is.
