When our Windows XP finally gives up the ghost we're going over to a Mac.
Enough is enough. However much Microsoft try to copy Apple's apps, the Windows OS simply can't seem to handle things.
Yay for no 5 minute boot-up or shutdown!
My startup time with Vista is way faster than my older machine with xp.
Apple is about "Look" and the "cool" factor. As of today, the Mac and Vista are the same, except macs cost more money. An odd business model.
Originally posted by Crowleywell the hardware is pc hardware, and the OS is actually pretty good (maybe even the best). but the huge problem of course is that it's a marginal platform, so there's no real point in making software for it (which contrary to the apple propaganda has been true since mid 90s).
Except that they're crap? Then nothing, no.
and these days, it isn't even that pricey anymore. and for the first time since early 90s it's actually on par with other computers performance wise.
but, all things considered, it's very hard for me to see a situation where I could justify myself buying one.
OK huge bonus here, older software not able to be operated in a vista atmosphere, runs perfectly on windows 7.
I have an older game (Deus EX) that I still enjoy playing to this day. Vista actually wouldn't allow the game to install properly even with the online patch. It installed perfectly on 7 and played very well.
I know this doesn't show what the OS can handle, but it does show it will allow older software meant to operate in an old FAT system to work well here.
For RHP users, I can't find any issue with RHP to date running in IE8 or Windows 7

I can see how the tablet mac could be different.
I'm tempted to get one of these for graphic work:

but it also seems useless for anything else.
at one point I thought of getting mac mini, to run it as a 24/7 streaming server. but I got over the urge (and really couldn't justify buying yet another toy).

Anyway, back on topic:
Another great feature is the shutdown halting and giving you chance to close running apps and save open docs.
This has been needed for ages as well. Does Vista have this?
Originally posted by Crowleynot much. What do you do, wurmpie?
just tried shutting vista down with an unsaved notepad, and a save/don't/cancel -dialog pops up. nice, didn't know that. saving everything every now and then has been instinctive for so long...
