I think there's a mixture of terms. Ice pellets are small frozen bits, which is sleet, from my understanding. When I studied meteorology there were 7 forms. Rain, hail, fog, graupel, snow, sleet and virga.
You studied meteorology and wound up a butcher? Not that we don't need butchers too.

I did major in science in community college and college though. I needed work during school, summers and after college. An old friend needed a mechanic in his shop. I did that for about 10 years. We moved out east, I got a job bagging groceries.
They needed someone to clean the meat Dept at night. They put me on as apprentice, got my Journeyman after 6 months. Did that from 1991-2020.
You never see "physicist wanted" in the paper. You either teach, write, or get a grant etc
My work never got any attention. Nor really deserved it.
