About 1/3 of the 2.3M destitute are now being catered for with makeshift homes and food. The Junta are slowly relinquishing their arrogance and are realising they must let more foreign aid in. Again, Thailand is helping in accepting more Burmese across the borders, but can only cater for approx 200,000......a huge increase in demand on Thailands economy - but that's the care of this place for you!
I return to Shanghai tomorrow so will see the real news. I believe the toll there is 64,000 so far. Aftershocks are still occuring which increases the risk for the aid workers - and, as you are probably aware, the dams are being drained as best they can, as well as the dams created by debris..... much work still needed. 😉
