@ghost-of-a-duke saidAs a rule in the city it is mostly people next door to you or very close by.
That happens in the city as well.
It's a human condition. 😀
Different in the country gossip spreads for many miles and may not always be accurate.

@very-rusty saidI don’t think so, I’ve lived in a city and never spoken to or about my neighbours, work mates on the other hand are little gossip bunnies.

@very-rusty saidThat's true. (Although gossip tends to spread at work wherever you live).

@very-rusty saidIf you live in a small place, you know who people are and they know you - like a small work place. In a city or a big company, you don't always know that so you have to be very careful who you speak to, and about whom.

@torunn saidThe rule of thumb is learn who everyone is and what is going on in the environment you are in before saying much about anything. I never say anything about anyone I wouldn't tell them to their face.

The real world as you know works a lot differently than on here. I am lucky where I know the people in my community and we are kind of out side the city but still in the city limits, so still have the high taxes but much better air especially when you live alongside a lake that is clean. Only 10 minutes away from malls, if medical help is needed an ambulance can be here in under 5 minutes.

@very-rusty saidThat sounds ideal. I live in the east central part of Gothenburg, not quite walking distance for everyone but sufficient public transport to make shopping and other things easy. I also live close to a lake and a huge recreation area, and also a hospital so I am comfortable with things as they are.

@torunn saidIt is great to live close to everything. I was talking 10 minutes walking distance actually not driving. We did have an emergency and it took the ambulance 2 minutes to get here, although it was 5:10 a.m. and not much traffic. They usually situate the ambulances through out the city and outskirts so they are within about 5 minutes from everything, now if one needed to go to the hospital it would take about 10-15 minutes but paramedics would already have any Iv's in before they even left. Hopefully nothing will happen now as the Hospital is the last place I would want to end up in right now, or see any friends or family in.

@very-rusty saidThe walking distance here to emergency is about 10 minutes so with an ambulance it should be even quicker. But sometimes there are other calls that are more urgent than mine so I will still have to wait. The best thing to get the best attention is to say your age and that you have heart problems - it would put you first in line. But apart from that, I feel good about having the hospital so near because I can visit friends there who feel lonely and worried.

@torunn saidYes, and there are many patients with no one to see them especially at this time. They have taken some restrictions off, but still not a good situation to be in if you happen to be the one in hospital. Even the old folks home still have restrictions where you can only visit for a certain amount of time and only 1 person.

@very-rusty saidThat's the way it must be - old people's homes should have special attention and only competent staff. That wasn't the situation here before, and any flue was dangerous to people living there. Because of Covid19, or thanks to perhaps, it became quite obvious that what was done there was insufficient, and as far as I know, that is being taken care of now.

@torunn saidWe were not very well prepare here either, I don't think a lot places in different countries were until this virus hit. They didn't do anything about the situation until it was too late. Majority of deaths came from one big senior complex that holds around 500 people. Over 50 passed unfortunately. As Province we only lost 60 something people which is good compared to a lot of other parts of Canada and in the world.

@very-rusty saidI was surprised to learn that you reside in an "old folks home" in Nova Scotia. Are there any other chess players there?
