We don't say "physic" because we don't say "mathematic".
There's no reason to shorten the word physics.
We shorten mathematics to math. No reason to keep the "s". You shorten words with a cleaver, whacking off the end, not a scalpel, taking out only what you don't want. Do you shorten the word gasoline to "gase"?
Why don't yo ...[text shortened]... "? The apostrophe would indicate letters taken out, just like in contractions.

I specialised in maths in highschool, and I took Analysis I at university level, but didn't finish that class because I needed more time to prepare for the entrance exam for music university. Anyway, this was almost twenty years ago, and I have forgotten most of it. I haven't done much mathematical stuff since then. I would still be interested, but don't really have the time for it at the moment.

I once tried that at university, but it didn't work out due to a job in an orchestra that made it impossible to attend regularly, and half of the time when I would have been able to attend, the students were on strike... And it was fairly advanced, so I am not sure I'd have been able to follow it anyway. Maybe reading "Gödel, Escher, Bach" will get me moving into that direction again.

And I also like pure math. During my first year of college I thought about changing to math for a long time. So I'll definitely try to make people input some contents on that. Let's just see if we can get this thing started. I think I'll harass PBE6 and the lot of good guys that usually sticks around at the puzzle section.

Good physics needs good math. Really good math.
