i dug the grave.

i threw in rotted meat.

i threw in the paper mache mask.

i said "eat, you ugly son of a bitch"

then i pissed on his mask.

i pushed in the dirt.

i stamped on the dirt.

justice to those who had little justice.

Have to mention James Garner in 'The Rockford Files'. One description of the show:

Jim Rockford is an ex-con and private detective. He was falsely convicted of a crime he didn't commit, but that doesn't stop him from using his ex-con buddies to help him solve crimes. Nothing comes easy for Rockford, but he works hard and usually gets shot at or beat up at least once per episode.

Statistically, he was beaten (what a symbolic) by Mannix:

quote:
Mannix is notable for taking a lot of physical punishment. During the course of the series he is shot and wounded over a dozen separate times, or is knocked unconscious around 55 times.[23] Mannix frequently took brutal beatings to the abdomen; some of these went on quite a long time, particularly by the television standards of the era. Whenever Mannix gets into one of his convertibles he can expect to be shot at from another car, run off the road by another car, or find his vehicle sabotaged. Nevertheless he keeps his cool and perseveres until his antagonists are brought down. While making the television pilot "The Name is Mannix", Connors dislocated his shoulder running away from a From Russia With Love-type pursuit from a helicopter,[1] and broke his left wrist punching a stuntman who happened to be wearing a steel plate on his back.

what about tough guys? Hard-boiled detectives

Hunter with Fred Dryer, catchphrase: "Works for me"

Sledge Hammer - a caricature of tough guys, catchphrase: "Trust me, I know what I'm doing."

Mike Hammer - with Stacy Keach

bonus not TV show but in the same track: Dirty Harry

SLEDGE HAMMER ! Great show, all the episodes are on youtube.

I found this lost gem, it was the pilot for a show that didn't get picked up, it deserves a look. Conan O'Brien wrote the script specifically with Adam West in mind, he plays a washed up actor turned detective .

Don't forget "Dragnet", Jack Webb. It was also a radio show before it went to TV.

That's not a detective story, and the only crime involved is the politically correct, anti-intelligent screen "writing".

My vote, for telly shows,.goes to Morse; but no gogglebox spectacle can rival the books about Lord Peter Wimsey or Judge Dee. Mind - in both cases, the originals only!
